I know that all my well-wishers who have waited for this day will be really happy for me. It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us. The one person I missed terribly was Yash Uncle, but I know he was there with us in spirit and his love and blessings will always be with Adi and me. Madam Bhikaji Cama Indian freedom fighter the first Indian Flag hoisted by Madam Cama

Madam Bhikaji Cama Indian freedom fighter

Madam Bhikaji Cama with the first Indian Flag
"This flag is of Indian Independence! Behold, it is born! It has been made sacred by the blood of young Indians who sacrificed their lives. I call upon you, gentlemen to rise and salute this flag of Indian Independence. In the name of this flag, I appeal to lovers of freedom all over the world to support this flag."  -- B. Cama , Stuttgart, Germany, 1907.

These were the emotional words of a frail Indian lady, with fire inside and indomitable confidence and patriotic feeling for  motherland, India. The year was 1907 and the time, 3rd week of August. The Indian independence was 40 years away, and the world was not fully aware of the burning patriotism of hundreds and thousands of young Indians who were ready to lay down their lives for the sake of freedom for their country. The British were trying their best to put down the revolutionaries by bringing in ordinances, bans and arrests for life on the basis of treason. Treason was the greatest "crime" of the Indian which ensured a minimum of  six years of black waters (kalapani) or deportation to Andaman and harsh punishment.

A prominent personality of the Indian Nationalist Movement,Madam Bhikaji Cama was born as Bhikaiji Rustom Cama on 24th September, 1861 to a Parsi family in Bombay (now Mumbai). Well, we are talking about none other than Madam Cama, who is a well known freedom fighter. She came from a pretty well off family and her father Sorabji Framji Patel was a powerful member of the Parsi community. In this article, we will present you with the biography of Madame Cama.

Like many Parsi girls of the time, Bhikhaiji attended Alexandra Native Girl's English Institution. Bhikhaiji was by all accounts a diligent, disciplined child with a flair for languages.

Bhikaji took education from Alexandra Native Girl's English Institution. From the very beginning, she was a very sincere child. She always admired the personalities of the Nationalist Movement. On the 3rd of August in the year 1885, she tied her wedding knots with Rustom Cama, an affluent pro-British lawyer. She did not enjoy her married life and spent most of her time performing altruistic activities. Read on to know the complete life history of Madam Bhikaji Rustom Cama.

In the year 1896, the Bombay presidency was hit by a natural calamity, which had adverse effects on the city. Bhikaji was instrumental in the activities undertaken to provide assistance to the afflicted people. While rescuing other people and inoculating them, she herself became a victim of the infection. She became very weak, but somehow managed to survive. In the year 1902, she went to Europe for subsequent medical care and convalescence.

During the stay in London, Madam Cama received an invitation of the “International Socialist Conference” which was scheduled to start on 18th August 1907. The conference was being held since the previous ten years. This time the venue for the Annual meet was Stuttgart, in Germany. Savarkar always attempted to garner International support for the issue of Independence for India. Savarkar suggested that Madam Cama and Barrister Sardarsingh Rana should attend the conference as representatives of India. Savarkar also drafted the resolution that was to be proposed there.

On deciding that Madam Cama would propose the resolution during the conference, Savarkar realized that our nation does not have an independent flag for unfurling there. (Congress always hailed and pompously marched the British Union Jack, considering it to be Hindustan’s flag). Savarkar did not sit idle. From his talented personality Hindustan’s Tricolour, the first national flag, was born. Savarkar’s genius was so remarkable that all the flags that were used during freedom struggle and later had a set of three colours.

Madam Cama and Bhanumatiji, the wife of Shri Shamji Krishna Varma, themselves stitched this flag, using rich satin and silk cloth of the same three colours. Three such flags were made. The reason being, in the event of seizure of one during police action, the other could be used. To avoid any obstacle that could be created by anybody, Madam Cama carried one flag out of England, having hidden it in her blouse. Barrister Rana carried the other two flags to Paris. Around this time, the British government ordered Madam Cama to leave England. Madam Cama shifted her base to Paris, capital of France. It’s from Paris that she went to Stuttgart.

The Meaning of Colours and Symbols of the Flag hoisted by Madam Cama:

On 21st August, 1907, at the International Socialistic Conference, when Madam Cama unfurled the flag, she also explained the meaning of its colours and symbols. The top stripe of the Flag was Green in colour. The Eight provinces of India of those days were represented by eight lotus flowers. The slogan “Vande Mataram” for which hundreds of youngsters got their heads broken and also chanted the same while being hanged was inscribed on the centre saffron stripe. The Sun and Moon on the bottom red stripe indicated that India would remain Independent till Sun and Moon continued to grace the skies.

The Green colour reflected Courage and Spirit. The Saffron colour indicated victory and Red colour displayed Strength. After reading out the resolution Madam Cama delivered a straightforward speech. At the end of the speech, waving the flag she said “Before I end my speech, I want to tell you that, while I am alive I completely hope to see that the Republican State of India is formed. Vande Mataram”.

Later on during meetings of revolutionaries in Paris, a smaller version of the flag was always placed in the center of Madam Cama’s table. She also got one badge of the same flag made. She always carried the badge on her chest.

After the conference Madam Cama was invited by American Nationalists in order to propagate the Indian freedom struggle. On 19th October, 1907 she reached America. Even in America, in front of the locals, through her speeches she exposed the British suppression in India.

Started periodical “Madan Talwar”:

During this time Savarkar’s book “The Indian War of Independence- 1857” was published. Madam Cama declared that this book which was banned by British government would be available at her Paris address. She along with P.T. Acharya published French transcript of the book. After Madanlal Dingra assassinated Curzon Wyllie, Madam Cama visited Savarkar in London. In memory of Madanlal Dingra she started a periodical in September 1909 called ‘Madan Talwar’.

In the first week of January, 1910, on account of toiling efforts in the work of revolution, Savarkar started facing health problems. For a weather change, he went from London to Madam Cama’s place in Paris. By this time, Madam Cama had already become his second mother. This unique mother nursed Savarkar for nearly two months. By this time Savarkar was linked to the assassination of Jackson by Anant Kanhere in Nashik. Savarkar had sent the related pistol. Analysing the danger looming over colleagues in India and London, Savarkar felt that staying in Paris was incorrect and decided to go to London. Realising that Savarkar would be arrested immediately on reaching London, Madam Cama became worried. She tried to reverse Savarkar’s decision of going back to London. But Savarkar remained firm on his decision.

On 13th March, 1910 Madam Cama and Lala Hardayal accompanied Savarkar to the railway station. A Dark gloom persisted in the mind of Madam Cama while bidding farewell to Savarkar. He was immediately arrested, as he reached Victoria station, and on Judicial orders it was decided to send him to India.

Though the government tried to keep it confidential, Madam Cama and her colleagues got the information that Savarkar would be taken to India in the ‘Morea’ Ship. On knowing that the Ship had arrived at the Marseilles port, she drove along with V.V.S. Iyer from Paris and reached Marseilles. She reached 10-15 minutes after Savarkar was caught and taken back on the Ship. On enquiring with the locals about the chaos, she came to know about the incident of Savarkar’s historical dive. She felt very sad, but did not sit quietly. She informed M Jaures, Mayor of Marseilles about the incident. She told Jaures that arrest of Savarkar by British police on France soil was an insult to France and personally sent the news to the newspaper ‘Le Temps’ in Paris. The news of the illegal arrest published in the newspaper spread like fire across the world and caused huge embarrassment for the British government. Realizing that the government will be partial in executing the case on Savarkar, she sent a telegram to Barrister Joseph Baptisita to meet Savarkar as lawyer.

When Bhikaji Cama was in Paris, she happened to come across a number of notable leaders of the Indian Nationalist Movement. In Holland, they secretly published and circulated the revolutionary literature for the Nationalist Movement. During her stay in France, the British Raj authorities requested her extradition, but the French Government did not show their willingness and refused to cooperate. In return, the Britishers confiscated Madame Cama's legacy.

Bhikaji Cama
has always been actively involved in fighting for gender equality. On August 22, 1907, she raised the flag for India's Independence at the International Socialist Conference in Stuttgart, Germany. There are many cities in India that have streets and places being named after Bhikaiji Cama. On 26th January 1962, the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department issued a stamp to acknowledge her work and give her honor. The Indian Coast Guard consists of a ship that has been named after her.

Madam Cama’s wish to secure the release of Savarkar was so intense that she visited the British Embassy in Paris and handed over an application to the Ambassador. She mentioned that “The onus of sending the pistols to India was mine and not of Savarkar. I gave Chaturbhuj Amin the pistols to carry to India”. This act reflects her courage, dynamism and clear patriotism. She did not stop at that but also sent all information related to Savarkar to newspapers for publishing.

On 30th January, 1911, Savarkar was sentenced to life imprisonment. When Savarkar was at Andaman, she also provided financial aid to Savarkar’s younger brother Narayanrao Savarkar for higher studies. Angry British government sent a request to the French government to send Madam Cama back to India, but the French government did not abide by it.

During the First World War, Madam Cama used to visit military camps in Marseilles and ask Indian soldiers over there “Would you fight on behalf of those who have forced your motherland into slavery?”. During this war since France and England were allies, Madam Cama was asked to stay outside of Paris and was subjected to report to the police station once a week. Madam Cama still stood firm and was not shaken.

After the end of war Madam Cama returned back to Paris and resumed her political activities. But her health was not supportive. Being occupied with the revolutionary activities, she had been neglecting her health. Her financial situation had also deteriorated. Her wish to return to her motherland started getting intense. On severe perseverance and assurance of not participating in the freedom struggle, in 1935 i.e. after 34 long years she was granted permission to return to India. She came to Mumbai, but did not live for long. On 13th August, 1936 she died.

No memorial of Madam Cama has been created. But her life’s devotion and the severe pangs she has suffered while staying in foreign countries for the Independence of India should not be forgotten. The nation should pay due respect to her. Some people call the lady who has taken charge of the Rashtrapati Bhawan as ‘Daughter of Maharashtra’, while some others call the lady of Indian origin who stayed in space for six months as the ‘Daughter of India’. But in true sense, the lady who unfurled the First national flag of India across the seven seas is the real ‘Daughter of Maharashtra’ and ‘Daughter of India’.

Blue print on women safety launched

Blue print on women safety launched

Hyderabad Chapter of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), a national body with the prime objective of women empowerment though the promotion of entrepreneurship and managerial excellence launched 'Blue Print on Women's Safety', here at Hyderabad today. The 'Blue Print on Women's Safety' was launched at a special function in the presence of Dr. Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor, National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Mr. Amit Garg, IG, Vigilance and Enforcement Wing; Mr. V. Laxmikanth, M.D., Broadridge; past chairs along with office bearers of FLO Hyderabad chapter and others. The 'Blue Print on Women's Safety' offers recommendations and suggestions on women's safety which will be presented to the Government for implementation informed Ms. Jyotsna Angara, Chairperson, FLO Hyderabad Chapters.

Fast track courts to deal with all women abuse related cases, any two standard safety apps to be made mandatory on all employees’ phones across the organisations to ensure consistency, training emergency response and helpline teams to take immediate action, self defense workshops for women employees at regular frequency along with regular safety audits of workplaces and public spaces.

These are some of the key recommendations made by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) on Monday as part of the “Blue Print on Women Safety.” A GPS based chip which can be implanted in a chain or bracelet that can be worn by women as mobile phones could be snatched in case of an emergency was also highlighted.

The city of Hyderabad was a safe abode at one time for women but not anymore. Disturbed and outraged at the recent happenings with regards to Women's Safety in the city of Hyderabad, FLO Hyderabad chapter scheduled a series of Round Table Meetings with CEOs and Heads of Organisations of various companies to arrive at a Blue Print for Women's Safety. Over 36 organisations participated in the meetings including Corporates, Chamber of Commerce; Academia and Govt, bodies.

Speaking at the launch of the Blue Print, Chairperson FLO Hyderabad Chapter Ms. Jyotsna Angara said that the status of Women in modern India seems quite a paradox. On one hand she has reached unattained heights of success in terms of profession, business, social status and education, while on the other she has become a vulnerable target of violence. Being a Victim of any form of crime or harassment could be most traumatic experience for any woman. Women's safety and wellbeing is today a national phenomenon and a matter of extreme concern too, she added.

Women safety does not seem to be of importance or priority.Though we do know that Public safety is the responsibility of the system and it is letting us down, we cannot be silent spectators and wait for the awakening to happen. We at FLO believe that, it's now time for the Civil Society to become stronger and take substantial amount of responsibility to better the situation for ourselves and hence this 'Blue Print on Women's Safety' which offers recommendations to Govt, and suggestions to Corporates and Business Houses as well as the general civil society at large, said Jyotsna.

Among the various recommendations given in the 'Blue Print on Women's Safety7 are Fast Track Courts to be established for all women abuse related cases, Cases of sexual harassment which are non-cognizable offences should have a time limit of maximum 45 days for completion of inquiry, etc. The Blue Print recommends increasing the presence of ALL Genders in Public Spheres. 33% presence of women is not incorporated as yet. Audit needs to be conducted across various industries verticals to assess the implementation at the earliest.

It also recommends Incentivizing the implementation, an incentive / deterrent based action may be taken against all organisations that do not comply with this requirement e.g. Higher Tax bracket for non-compliance. It also recommends that Cinema, Advertising and other such visual forms of communication be monitored by Govt, and other regulatory bodies to ensure that women are not commoditized in a derogatory manner as is often done in these mediums.

The Blue Print also recommends various actions to be taken such as improving basic infrastructure such as Street Lights, Footpaths, construction of toilets at all MMTS stations, creating PPP model for sustaining the maintenance of public spaces, increasing number of police patrolling and deployment of trained female police constables into local communities to lead implementation of the various initiatives. It also recommends identifying two Community leaders along with one Police woman to become "Change Ambassadors" of the community who can be major catalysts in changing mind-set of people.

For Corporates and Business Houses, the 'Blue Print on Women's Safet/ suggests training Emergency Response and Helpline teams to take immediate action; Any TWO Standard Safety Apps to be made mandatory on all employees' phones across the organisation to ensure consistency.

Also it has been noted that when a women is attached the phone is snatched away first, hence It would help if a GPS based Chip can be implanted in a chain or bracelet that can be worn by women. Self Defense workshops for all women employees at regular frequency are also suggested along with regular Safety Audits of workplaces and public spaces. The Blue Print also suggests Quarterly Audits to be conducted by external registered vendor or a common constituted committee by its chamber of commerce / NASSCOM among various other things.

In its suggestions for the civil society at large, the 'Blue Print on Women's Safety' advocates public awareness programs at schools, colleges, work place and community especially awareness raising presentations in schools, colleges and universities on issues of adolescence, domestic violence and child safety. Also it suggests lectures to include preventive measures that can be undertaken by children, especially adolescent girls, teachers and parents with regard to safety of women and children. The suggestions aim to change the mind-set of society toward women.

Eenadu is an Indian Telugu-language daily newspaper which is the largest circulated Telugu newspaper in Andhra Pradesh, India. According to the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Q1 2012, Eenadu ranks No. 6 among the regional languages dailies with a Total Readership (TR) of 59,06,000. Eenadu (meaning "Today" in Telugu) was founded by the Indian media baron Ramoji Rao in 1974. It has also successfully adapted the latest publishing and communication technologies into the Telugu language. Eenadu's rapid expansion enabled diversification of its portfolio by venturing into numerous other markets such as finance and chitfund (Margadarsi chits), foods (Priya Foods), film production (Usha Kiran Films), film distribution (Mayuri Films), and a group of television channels (ETV). All the businesses are organized under Ramoji Group.

Initially, the circulation of Eenadu was limited. When launched in the city of Vishakapatnam, it wasn't able to sell more than 3,000 copies a week. Eenadu found itself struggling to become a daily publication ranked amongst other popular rival publications.

By 1975, Eenadu managed to achieve its target of becoming a daily publication. However, it was popular in regions and rivalry was still an issue. Eenadu hired a new set of directors to be part of its key decision and management group which drove it towards what it is today: the mostly highly circulated newspaper in the region.

Eenadu was launched from Vishakhapatnam in 1974 by Ramoji Rao, a businessman with other successful enterprises: Priya Pickles and Margadarsi Chitfunds. At that time, the Andhra Prabha, owned by the Indian Express Group, was the leading regional newspaper.

Eenadu began with a print order of 4000 copies, composed by hand and produced using a second hand printing press. But by the time it was admitted into the Audit Bureau of Circulations in 1976, its circulation was 48,000. By 1978, Eenadu surpassed Andhra Prabha’s circulation and by 1995, two other rivals Andhra Patrika and Udayam folded up, leaving Eenadu with over 75% of the audited circulation of Telugu dailies. This was primarily due to its remarkable marketing strategy.

When Eenadu expanded to Hyderabad in 1975, it divided the city into target areas, recruited delivery boys three months in advance and gave away the paper for free for a week. During the 1980s, technology enabled Eenadu to spread over larger areas besides the main cities. Earlier, it was difficult to manage even the three editions of the 1970s (Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Hyderabad) because the only communication facilities were the telegram, telephone and teleprinter, which had limited presence in rural Andhra Pradesh. But with the introduction of offset printing, photocomposing software and computers, Eenadu was able to launch editions in smaller towns like Tirupathi in 1982. From the 1980s, the news editor of Eenadu, from his Hyderabad office, oversaw an enormous local-based news gathering and disseminating organization.

Divya Bhaskar is a Gujarati newspaper in Gujarat, India, owned by D B Corp Ltd. It is one of the highest circulation Gujarati dailies, with the most number of editions in Gujarat.

In 2003, the Bhopal-based Bhaskar Group identified Ahmedabad, Gujarat as the city with highest potential for the fourth launch of Dainik Bhaskar outside Madhya Pradesh (MP). It surveyed 12,00,000 households, with a team of 1050 surveyors, 64 supervisors, 16 zonal managers and 4 divisional managers. The surveyors were gathered largely through posters at colleges and word-of-mouth publicity, instead of expensive print and TV advertisements. Nearly 40-50% of the surveyors were later absorbed in Dainik Bhaskar or Divya Bhaskar, while the rest were given a certificate of appreciation. The team was trained to reach out to 8 lakh households in Ahmedabad and 4 lakh households in adjoining districts, in a time span of 40 days. The newspaper was launched in Ahmedabad on 23 June 2003, under the name Divya Bhaskar, as No. 1 with 452,000 copies (a world record). Within 15 months, it entered two more cities of Gujarat: Surat and Vadodara. To counter the Bhaskar's group's threat, the leading Gujarati newspapers came up with color pages, price reductions and several high-value customer offers. However, by 2009, Divya Bhaskar became the largest circulated Gujarati daily with 11.5 copies.

Divya Bhaskar is the largest circulated daily of Gujarat as per ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation) and has the most editions by any newspaper in Gujarat. It is published from Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Mehsana, Bhuj, Bhavnagar (as Saurashtra Samachar) and Junagadh (as Sorath Bhaskar).

Ayurveda tips Onion for Hair Growth and Reversing Grey Hair care Tips

Hair care Tips Onion for Hair Growth and Reversing Grey

Onion juice has been used for hundreds of years to treat thin and greying hair.

Hair fall is the most common problem today. Almost everybody is suffering hair loss but imagine if we keep losing our hair just like this, what will happen after a few years? There has to be a solution to combat this problem.you can go for cosmetics that claims to boost hair growth, but are they safe? So the question is there has to be a home solution that could solve the problem naturally.we have solution too.

Onion is the solution to hair fall problem. It not only reduces hair fall but also helps in growth of the hair. Now you must be thinking that how can onion help in hair treatment when it smells so bad. But it surely does. If you are witnessing your hair line thinning or some hairless patches, try opting onion treatment instead of spending unnecessarily in salons and spas.

Onions are more than just a healthy vegetable. They have been shown to help increase hair growth and reverse grey hair when applied to the scalp.

Using onion for hair growth is not only natural but absolutely safe too because you are not exposing your hair and scalp to harsh chemicals, instead you are simply using a kitchen ingredient in order to prevent hair loss.

Being rich in sulfur, onions inspire hair growth because sulfur helps in improving blood circulation. Since onions also possess antibacterial properties, they reduce the skin inflammations, if any. In addition to the above, onion juice imparts strength to your hair and open up the pores of your hair follicles to avoid scalp infection.

Onion juice helps by providing nourishment and circulation to the hair follicles.  It also kills germs, parasites, and is helpful in treating some fungi infections, all of which can aid in prevention of hair loss.

Onions are also high in sulfur, which helps in regenerating the hair follicles, and they are beneficial in decreasing inflammation.

How to use onion for Hair Problems:

raw onion juice:
This is the simplest method to take the benefits of the sulfur content in onion. All you need to do is just process some onions in your food processor and take out its juice. Apply it on your scalp and wash off with a mild shampoo after at least 30 minutes Effective results can be seen with a minimum use of onions thrice a week for 1-2 months. Above all, you must remember that since it is a natural remedy, you need to show patience.

onion-honey mixture:
Mix one-fourth cup of raw onion juice with honey. Stir it well and massage your scalp with it daily to see effective results.

onion-rum concoction:
If you just can’t bear the smell of onion and yet want to use it for hair growth, you should really try this method. All you need to do is just chop 1 onion and immerse it all night in a glass of rum. Leave the glass outside and not in your refrigerator. Filter it the next day, to remove the onion bits and then massage your scalp by this liquid. It can also be used as a hair rinse.

How to make onion and honey mixture

How to make onion and honey mixture

Juice one onion in a juicer. After collecting the juice, add a 1-2 teaspoons of honey. You can either apply the mixture all over your hair or just to the spots that look thin. Leave it on overnight, and try to avoid covering it (although you can cover your pillow). Just shampoo it out the next morning that will get rid of the smell. If you're still wary, add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to the mixture.

How to use:
Use this treatment at least once a week or as many as 3 times.

Common onions are normally available in three colour varieties. Yellow or brown onions (called red in some European countries), are full-flavoured and are the onions of choice for everyday use. Yellow onions turn a rich, dark brown when caramelized and give French onion soup its sweet flavour. The red onion (called purple in some European countries) is a good choice for fresh use when its colour livens up the dish. It is also used in grilling and char-broiling. White onions are the traditional onions that are used in classic Mexican cuisine. They have a golden colour when cooked and a particularly sweet flavour when sautéed.

Most onion cultivars are about 89% water, 4% sugar, 1% protein, 2% fibre and 0.1% fat. They contain vitamin C, vitamin B6, folic acid and numerous other nutrients in small amounts. They are low in fats and in sodium, and with an energy value of 166kJ (40 kcal) per 100 g (3.5 oz) serving, they can contribute their flavour to savoury dishes without raising caloric content appreciably.

In India, some sects do not eat onions as they believe them to be an aphrodisiac.Various schools of Buddhism also advise against the consumption of onions and garlic because they believe that they increase desire when eaten cooked and anger when eaten raw.

How to use onion juice for hair

Did you know that onion is great for preventing hair loss? This nutritional benefit of onion is relatively unknown to most people. Recent studies on natural remedies for hair loss have proven that onions are great in curing hair loss and stimulating new hair growth. Regular consumption of onion is helpful in treating several types of hair problems such as dandruff, yeast, and fungal infections. Use of onions is also a great way to prevent hair loss. It helps in thickening of hair and prevents premature greying.

For the first application of onion juice, you may want to test it on a small area (in case you may be allergic to it) or water down the mixture. Even though it’s natural, pure onion juice is strong.
