To repeat the cliche, the road to the kingship leads to Uttar Pradesh. Due to the importance of the seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Gandhi family has placed its most popular leaders Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in UP to try their luck. Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli.

Sonia Gandhi
According to the counting, Sonia Gandhi is leading in Rae Bareli against BJP’s Ajay Agrawal and AAP’s Archana Srivastava. Rae Bareli has been a strong hold of Congress since 2004. Sonia Gandhi had won the seat in 2009 Lok Sabha elections beating BSP’s R.S.Kushwaha. Rae Bareli is Congress’s safe ground and has been since the rule of Indira Gandhi. With Sonia Gandhi leading in Rae Bareli, Congress might just get its hopes back of winning the ‘Kingmaker’ state by withstanding the Modi wave.

Sonia Gandhi is the current sitting member of parliament of the Rae Bareli constituency and it seems like she is about to do it all over again!

Lok Sabha Polls were conducted in Rae Bareli on 30th April, 2014.

Modi has won the Vadodara seat by a margin of 5 lakh votes

Modi has won the Vadodara seat by a margin of 5 lakh votes

Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel has claimed that BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will win the election to Vadodara Lok Sabha seat by a "margin of over five lakh votes".

"We expect majority of votes for Modi and a victory margin of over five lakh votes," Patel, the poll in-charge of Modi for the Vadodara election, told PTI here Thursday.

Patel, who represents Akota Assembly seat of Vadodara, has been camping in the city ever since the poll process began and supervised party network in all seven Assembly segments falling under the Vadodara LS constituency.

"This will be first time in the country's history of parliamentary polls, that a Prime Ministerial nominee will win Vadodara Lok Sabha seat with such a huge margin," he claimed.

Vadodara saw a record 70.57 per cent polling this year which is the highest ever recorded in the city in Lok Sabha polls since 1951, he said.

The way people lined up at polling booths to cast their votes, reflected their mood for voting for Modi in large numbers because the city had been "Karmabhumi" for the senior BJP leader in 80s, he said.

Vadodara's sitting BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla had won the seat by a margin of 1.36 lakh of votes over his nearest Congress rival Satyajitsinh Gaekwad in 2009, when Vadodara constituency had recorded 49.2 per cent voting.

All the seven Assembly seats under Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency are held by the BJP, which is also the ruling party in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and district panchayat.

BJP city unit president Bharat Danger said, "We effectively used social media and registered more than 25,000 people on Facebook for carrying out campaign in favour of Modi."

Modi is pitted against Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistry, AAP candidate S Kulkarni and others for the LS contest in Vadodara.

2014 Lok Sabha elections results: BJP takes big lead

The BJP took a big lead as millions of votes polled in the Lok Sabha election were counted Friday, with its candidates racing ahead of all others in 71 of the 122 seats.

As an army of officials began the mammoth counting process in 989 places across the country, it was clear that a BJP wave was sweeping northern, western and central India, leaving the Congress far behind.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi took early lead in both Vadodara in Gujarat and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, his two Lok Sabha constituencies.

Also in the lead were BJP veterans Uma Bharti (Jhansi), L.K. Advani (Gandhinagar) and Rajnath Singh (Lucknow).

Election officials said all the seats in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, all ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, were going the BJP way.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi was in the lead in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress candidates were in the lead in 32 constituencies, mainly in the country's south. Other parties were ahead in 19 places.

An estimated 550 million people voted in the staggered Lok Sabha election that ended May 12.

Exit polls have predicted a victory for the BJP and its allies.

Mathrubhumi  is a Malayalam language newspaper that is published from Kerala, India. Mathrubhumi was founded by K. P. Kesava Menon, an active volunteer in the Indian freedom struggle against the British. The word "Mathrubhumi" roughly translates to "mother land". It is the second most widely read newspaper daily in Kerala, after Malayala Manorama. They also publish a variety of magazines and supplements including the prestigious weekly literary magazine, Mathrubhumi .

Based in the northern Kerala town of Kozhikode, Mathrubhumi was founded in 1922 in the aftermath of Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement as a public limited company. This status makes it rare among newspapers, which tend to be closely held private companies owned by a single family.

K.P Kesava Menon, who was then Secretary of Kerala State Congress Committee, realized the urgent need for a pro-freedom movement publication from the Malabar region. And he, along with his confidants like K. Madhavan Nair, Kuroor Neelakandan Nampoothirippad, K. Kesavan Nair and P. Achuthan, resolved to register The Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Limited and the registration took place on 15th of February 1922.

K. Madhavan Nair became the first Managing Director of the Company. Madhavan Nair (1882-1933) was the leading the freedom-struggle from Malabar and was a member of Madras Constituent Assembly. The newspaper's founders were members of the Indian National Congress led by K. P. Kesava Menon (1886-1978); its shareholders included about 350 men and women of Kerala. Though Mathrubhumi lost money regularly in its early years, that did not matter, its historian noted in 1973, because its goals were not those of business but of social oppression and unrest. It battled gallantly with British authorities before independence and bitterly with Kerala's Communists from the late 1930s.

By the 1940s, as Kerala's literate and politicised character forced itself to the attention of officials, the British acknowledged that Mathrubhumi, reaches every village in the district [of Malabar] and a mischievous attack of the police [in Mathrubhumi] is likely to do, a great deal of harm among the mass of the people who are able to read but not able to think for themselves. Mathrubhumi played important roles in many social reformation movements such as Vaikom Satyagraha and Guruvayur Satyagraha against untouchability. Participating in the Satyagraha, K.P. Keasava Menon was arrested and was sent to jail. Independence activists such as P. Ramanunni Nair, K. Kelappan, P. Narayanan Nair, C. H. Kunjappa, K. A. Damodara Menon, and A. P. Udhayabhanu have served as Chief Editors of the newspaper, and also Mathrubhumi has witnessed some of the very splendid Indian Civil Service officers as editors.

Mathrubhumi was Kerala's leading daily with an estimated circulation of 19,000 at independence in 1947, which rose quickly to 26,000 by 1952.
